Sept. 1985-March 1991 Assistant General Counsel, AMAX Inc.- Managing attorney for Western Area Law Department of large mining and manufacturing company. Major responsibilities included ensuring operations' compliance with environmental laws and regulations; manage environmental audit program; develop and implement record retention program; manage environmental litigation; conduct due diligence reviews of major acquisitions; member of task force evaluating new business venture in hazardous waste treatment and disposal.

Nov. 1977-Aug. 1985 Vice President and General Counsel, AMAX Environmental Services, Inc.- Vice President of corporate subsidiary with 30 legal and technical staff responsible for compliance of over 50 mining and mineral processing operations with environmental laws and regulations; manage compliance audit program; conduct training seminars for environmental managers; obtain permits for new facilities and expansions of existing operations; obtain and manage environmental services contracts with third parties.

June 1971-Oct. 1977 Senior Attorney, AMAX Inc.- Member of Western Area Law Department specializing in environmental and mining law; advise operations regarding emerging federal and state environmental requirements; develop and manage implementation of environmental management systems; hire and train technical and legal staff.

Sept. 1969-May 1971 Associate Attorney, Holme Roberts & Owen- Practiced Natural Resources law, with emphasis in mining and oil and gas; prepared title opinions; prepared closing documents for major real estate and financial transactions.
